Does My New Audi Car Qualify for OBBBA Tax Deductions?
Drivers comparing financing options for a new Audi car often ask about federal tax benefits under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). Understanding which incentives remain available can save you thousands of dollars or help you plan your purchase timeline more effectively. At Audi Silver Spring in Silver Spring, MD, we’re clarifying which OBBBA provisions apply to your Audi purchase and explaining why assembly location determines eligibility for tax deductions.
Understanding OBBBA’s Electric Vehicle Deduction Timeline
The OBBBA accelerated the termination of federal electric vehicle (EV) tax deductions to September 30, 2025. If you purchased a qualifying electric Audi before this date, you may have claimed up to $7,500 for new electric vehicles like the Audi Q4 e-tron®. However, these deductions no longer exist for cars purchased after September 30, 2025.
The legislation ended the $7,500 new EV deduction, $4,000 used EV deduction, and $40,000 commercial clean vehicle deduction simultaneously. Buyers who signed binding contracts and made payments by September 30, 2025, could still claim deductions when taking delivery.
Car Loan Interest Deduction Requirements
The OBBBA introduced a car loan interest deduction allowing taxpayers to deduct up to $10,000 annually in interest on qualifying vehicle loans for tax years 2025 through 2028. This above-the-line deduction applies whether you itemize or take the standard deduction. However, vehicles and borrowers alike must meet specific criteria. Most critically, the car must have final assembly in the United States to qualify for this deduction.
Why Audi Vehicles Don’t Qualify for the Interest Deduction
Audi manufactures its vehicles at facilities worldwide, but currently has no final assembly operations in the United States. The best-selling Audi Q5, for instance, is assembled at the San José Chiapa plant in Puebla, Mexico. Other Audi models are assembled in Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, and Belgium.
Since Audi models undergo final assembly outside the United States, they don’t meet the qualification criteria for the OBBBA car loan interest deduction. Although no Audi models currently appear on the official qualifying vehicles list, our Audi lease and finance offers are always worth a closer look.
